Mel Gibson: «I am not really interested in being a star»

His photos are in newspapers all over the world. Not bad for someone who got started in the acting business by accident. Let's get to know him a bit better. Mel Gibson answered some questions of the journalist.

Is it true that when you were a boy, you never thought about becoming an actor?

My real dream was to be a journalist. But my sister always said I'd be a good actor, and she put my name down for the Academy without even telling me! I remember that the first lesson were really boring. And then suddenly I discovered the bug.

How did you start off acting?

1 began my acting in classical pieces of drama with the Australian Theatre Company. 1 got a lot of experience during that time, even if I didn't find it fully satisfying. Bit by bit, I started thinking about films. So, when the director George Miller offered me a part in «Mad Мах», 1 accepted it right away. And the film was a big hit. Later there were such movies as «Lethal weapon», «Hamlet», «Bravehearl» and many others.

How do you live with being so popular?

I'm not really interested in being a star. I hardly ever go to big Hollywood-style parties. As soon as 1 have a moment free,

I go out and stay with my family on the farm I owe in Australia. That's where I can just be myself, and enjoy the things I most care about — living a normal, peaceful, happy life.
